Pakistan Women beat Sri Lanka by two wickets and Ireland Women overcame the Netherlands Women by just one run in a low-scoring first round of matches in the quadrangular One-Day International tournament in Colombo.

Qanita Jalil and Sana Mir both took two wickets as Pakistan dismissed Sri Lanka for 68 in 24.2 overs, only two players reaching double figures before Bismah Maroof (22) top scored as Pakistan inched home by closing on 69 for eight in 27 overs. Marina Iqbal hit a vital unbeaten 13 as two wickets apiece from Suwini de Alwis and Eshani Kaushalya proving to be in vain.

Ireland successfully defended a score of 113 all out, which they achieved in 28 overs, by bowling the Dutch out for 112 in 27.3 overs in another tightly-contested game.

On a day where bowlers prospered, Esther de Lange returned three for 16 for the Netherlands and Ciara Metcalfe four for 27 for Ireland.

The series continues when the Netherlands meet Pakistan and Sri Lanka host Ireland on 28th April.
