Nel Signs For Second Spell At Essex

Andre Nel will spend a second spell at Essex next season. Nel, 29, has signed to play for the first half of next season, although this is subject to the South African Cricket Board approving the deal.

From April until mid-June he is set to be with the county, although the start of his stint will be delayed should South Africa reach the World Cup Final, scheduled for April 28th.

Nel has previously been with Essex for just under a month in 2005, and he marked his Championship debut with wickets with his first and third balls. He was a member of the Essex Eagles team that beat Hampshire Hawks at Colchester to claim the totesport Lague Title.

Nel has 84 Test and 72 one-day international wickets, and has spent time playing for Northamptonshire in 2003.

Essex Chief executive David East said "Andre was a huge asset to us in the brief time he was at Essex in 2005.

"He is a wholehearted competitor and is sure to make a significant early season impact in both one-day and Championship cricket.''

Andy Bichel is all but set to be the replacement overseas player when Nel departs on September 15th, whilst Danish Kaneria will be their second overseas player for the entire season.
