Fast bowler David Stiff has been handed a one-year contract extension at Somerset.
24-year-old Stiff was originally signed on trial by Somerset before he was offered a contract for the rest of the season and this latest extension takes himup to the end of the 2010 season.
Director of Cricket Brian Rose told Somerset's website (somersetcountycc.co.uk): "We have seen enough of David to form the opinion that if he gets his consistency right he could be a real handful.
"He recognises that he has a lot of work to do, both on his fitness and diet and on maintaining his mental strength for bowling.
"But I believe he is a player worth persevering with. We are not ramming things down his throat, but working with him in a fairly gentle way and he is very grateful for the opportunity we are giving him."
