New film 'Azhar' portrays life of one of India's most celebrated and controversial characters

Azhar, the film portraying the life of Mohammad Azharuddin, one of India's most celebrated and controversial cricketers, premieres on 13th May around the world.

The film tells the story of the former Indian skipper's remarkable journey from breaking records that still stand today to his involvement in India's first match-fixing scandal, based around the incidents that defined his career and life.

Azhar stars Emraan Hashmi as Azharuddin, who delivers a powerful performance alongside a cast including Prachi Desai (Azharuddin's first wife Naureen) and Nargis Fakhri (Azharuddin's second wife, Sangeeta Bijlani).

Also on the cast list are Lara Dutta, Guatam Gulati, Manjot Singh, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Rajesh Sharma as the film takes us through Azhar's life from a youngster in Hyderabad to international stardom, controversy and his fall from grace.

Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Sony Pictures Networks, the film is directed by award-winning American novelist and journalist Tony D'Souza.
