The withdrawal of India’s strike bowler Zaheer Khan from the Second Test at Trent Bridge tomorrow has further boosted England’s chances, reports Paddy Power.

Andrew Strauss’ men are now 10/11 for victory at Trent Bridge, having been 11/10 before the Indian camp’s announcement.

With much written over India’s strong record in Second Tests compared to the First in recent series a fitter India team without the injury restraints on Gambhir and Tendulkar could prove tempting for some at a lively 7/2 with the draw at 9/5.

Kevin Pietersen, who scored a double century at Lords is 4/1 to follow that up with a first innings ton at Trent Bridge, and the same price to be England’s top first innings runscorer, whilst for India Sachin Tendulkar is 2/1 to record his 100th international century during the match.

Another man in the headlines after his strong First Test performance, Stuart Broad, is 10/1 to take five wickets in an innings with the ball, 2/1 for a half century, and 22/1 to score a half century and take five wickets in an innings

Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “Punters had been weighing up the Trent Bridge conditions, which should suit Jimmy Anderson and the England bowling attack, with the wounded tiger of India who always comeback so strongly in Second Tests – but the loss of Khan will surely change that now.”

England are now 3/10 to win the series and 8/11 to be world number one by the time of its conclusion.
