Ashley Noffke has been called up to Australia's squad for their Twenty20 International against New Zealand in Perth, with Michael Clarke appointed as captain with Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden being rested.

Noffke, along with Adam Voges, has been rewarded for a fine summer with both bat and ball, with one, or both, guaranteed to play in the match on December 11th, at the home of Western Australia.

NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said, "The selection of this KFC Twenty20 International squad represents a clear indication from the National Selection Panel that we will at all times be picking Twenty20 sides which will be specific to this form of the game.

“This is the commencement of our preparation for the World Twenty20 in England in 2009 and the selection is consistent with the management of our senior players in all forms of the game.

“Both Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden are not playing this game. We are taking the opportunity to look at some of the young and exciting talent around the country who have regularly performed to a very high standard in interstate competitions to date.

“In particular we rewarded Ashley Noffke and Adam Voges for their outstanding summers. We have the taken opportunity to enhance the leadership skills of Michael Clarke to assure the long history of strong leadership of Australian cricket is continued into the future.”

The squad for the three-match Commonwealth Bank Chappell-Hadlee Trophy will be named tomorrow.

Australia Twenty20 squad: Michael Clarke (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Brad Hodge, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Ashley Noffke, Andrew Symonds, Adam Voges, Shaun Tait
