Northamptonshire 261 & 289-7 dec (Wakely 112) beat
Leicestershire 157 and 391 (Ackermann 105) by two runs
County Championship Division Two, Northampton, day four

A spirited century from Colin Ackermann and fifties from Mark Cosgrove and Matthew Pillans went in vain as Northamptonshire managed to edge out Leicestershire by two runs while defending 394 runs in the final day of the County Championship Division Two clash in Northampton.

Needing an improbable 350 runs to win on the final day, both the openers Paul Horton (26) and Arun Harinath (26) fell on identical scores with score reading 61 for two.

Ackermann (105) and Cosgrove (76) stitched a 127 run stand for the third wicket and was well supported by Ned Eckersley (46) as well as Leicestershire reached 246 for three.

However, Northamptonshire fought back picking four wickets in a span of 53 runs as Leicestershire were reduced to 299 for seven. Despite the setback, Ackermann continued to keep the fight going while Pillans (56) kept the boundaries coming at the other end.

Richard Gleeson (4-109) picked the key wicket of Ackermann when Leicestershire needed another 37 runs to win. Even though Pillans went on to complete his fifty, Rory Kleinveldt (3-65) accounted for him and Clint McKay (5) to seal a two run thrilling win for Northamptonshire, who are fourth in the table now.
