Northamptonshire Re-Sign Klusener And Van Der Wath

Northamptonshire have secured the services of South Africans Lance Klusener and Johannes Van Der Wath for the 2008 season, the county announced earlier today.

Head coach David Capel commented, "A player with the experience and attitude of Lance Klusener is a great example to the dressing room and strengthens the teams in all areas. Looking forward to the future beyond 2008 Lance will help bring on the developing players at Northants and is a great example to the maturing all rounders that we currently have within the squad.

"Our ethos here is to develop younger players for the future while remaining competitive in all competitions over the forthcoming years. We see Lance and Johannes as very important parts of that vision and are confident that we are developing a squad to take this club forward for many years to come," he commented.

Both players have had strong seasons with bat and ball; Klusener hitting three centuries in all competitions and taking 18 wickets, Van Der Wath hitting three half-centuries and claiming 40 wickets.

Klusener, who has previously represented Nottinghamshire, and Middlesex, said, "I am very happy here at Northampton and my family and I are very pleased to have signed another contract for 2008. There are some exciting players here and I hope that I can help the team challenge for promotion in the County Championship this season and repeat the fine finish to the season we saw in the Pro40 last year."

Van Der Wath, who has eight one-day international caps to his name, added, "The guys here have made me really welcome and I am really enjoying playing my cricket on good pitches. There is a feeling here that the club has renewed direction and with younger players now pushing the seniors for places, a consistently winning team is not far away."
