Experienced Sri Lankan left-arm fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has signed for Northamptonshire and is set to play a full part in their Friends Provident t20 campaign.

Vaas, a veteran of 111 Tests and 322 One-Day Internationals, has taken over 750 international wickets and he will bolster Northamptonshire's bowling attack alongside South Africans Nicky Boje and Andrew Hall as well as Zimbabwean captain Elton Chigumbura.

“We have secured the services of a world-class performer with enormous experience in all formats of the game,” Northants Cricket’s Head Coach David Capel said.

“This is a major boost to our hopes of success and Chaminda is with us through this vital phase of the season. Having spoken to him, I know he is very enthusiastic about coming here and is geared up for this opportunity.”

Vaas impressed in the recent third edition of the Indian Premier League, returning an economy rate of 6.31 for the Deccan Chargers.

He also has a Test century to his name as well as 13 half-centuries and has previously represented Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire in county cricket.
