Northamptonshire Sign South African Spinner Boje

Northants resources have been stretched recently with the early departure of strike bowler Johan van der Wath, the injury of loan player Iain Sutcliffe and the back niggle currently being suffered by Steven Crook. Combine this with the imminent departure of Australian Chris Rogers and Head Coach David Capel has needed to consider a number of different aspects when searching for the last of his available overseas replacements.

David Capel commented, “the search to replace Johan van der Wath with an overseas fast bowler has proved a difficult one as many of the world's finest cricketers are either competing in the Twenty20 World Cup, or have previously been registered by other 1st class counties.

"With the restricted availability of Monty Panesar and likelihood of playing on used pitches more favourable to spin bowling we have decided to recruit the services of the former South African spin bowling all rounder Nicky Boje. He brings a wealth of cricketing experience into our team as well as having a proven track record with bat and ball in both 1st class and one day cricket.

"He will also be able to greatly assist our younger cricketers and in particular Graeme White as a slow left arm bowler. We are keen to continue to give opportunities to our seam bowlers currently under contract at Northants which they are looking to maximize."
