Hard-hitting Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has signed to play in the Friends Provident t20 competition for Northamptonshire later this year.
Subject to BCCI approval, Sehwag will begin his second stint in county cricket after a spell with Leicestershire in 2003, Northamptonshire describing the signing of the Delhi Daredevils star as a 'major coup'.
“This is absolutely fantastic news for the club and shows everyone that we want to continue our year on year improvement," chief executive Mark Tagg said.
"Hopefully this shows our fans we are serious in our ambitions to become the best County Cricket Club in the country.”
Sehwag, 31, has played 76 Tests, 220 One-Day Internationals and 14 Twenty20 Internationals, scoring the fastest century by an Indian batsman in Hamilton last March.
He is also the third batsman, after Sir Don Bradman and Brian Lara, to score two triple-centuries in Test match cricket.
