Old Speckled Hen, Britain’s best loved premium ale, has become the Official Beer of Sussex County Cricket Club for the next five seasons. The deal, which starts in time for the beginning of the 2010 season, will see Old Speckled Hen take up pouring rights at The County Ground in Hove.

As official sponsors, Old Speckled Hen will also invest a considerable amount towards the upgrading of cellar cooling, bar facilities and dispense equipment at the ground, giving Sussex supporters the best possible match day experience.

The investment made by Old Speckled Hen will also focus on engaging the local area with the club throughout the Sussex Supporter Pub Network, to be launched during the 2010 season.

At these specially designated pubs, supporters will be able to win cricket-related prizes and also have the opportunity to share a pint of Old Speckled Hen with their Sharks heroes throughout the season.

After the double-winning exploits of last year, which saw the Sharks win both the Pro40 and T20 competitions, fans will be thirsty for more of the same this time around.

The County Ground is sure to be treated to some big-hitting this summer with the addition to the squad of New Zealand international Brendon McCullum. The explosive wicketkeeper batsman, who is available for the Sharks’ 2010 FPt20 campaign, will want to hit the ground running when Sussex get their defence of the trophy underway against Somerset Sabres at Hove on 1 June.

Old Speckled Hen will play a prominent part on FPt20 match days through its “Catch a Six” competition – giving fans the chance to win a case of the Sharks’ Official Beer if they can hold onto one of the big hits this summer.

Old Speckled Hen Marketing Manager John Sharples said, “There is a natural affection between cricket supporters and real ale and we hope that this partnership with Sussex Sharks will continue that trend. To be involved with one of English cricket’s most successful counties is fantastic and it promises to be an exciting summer”.

Sussex Cricket’s Chief Executive Dave Brooks said, “Hove is a gorgeous seaside County Ground and to sit on the deckchairs enjoying a cool pint of Old Speckled Hen will be an additional attraction this year. We are delighted to sign a long term partnership and can’t wait for the new season to begin on Thursday when we entertain Surrey.”
