Opening SA-Australia T20I Washed Out

South Africa v Australia - no result, rain
First Twenty20 International, Port Elizabeth

The first Twenty20 International between South Africa and Australia in Port Elizabeth was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.

The match was finally called off more than two hours after the scheduled start time after steady rain came and went throughout the day.

At various times, it looked as if a game would be possible, with the covers withdrawn on more than one occasion to allow inspections to be carried out.

However, the rain returned each time, finally coming down heavier than before to stop the series getting underway.

The two sides will now head to Durban for the second match on Wednesday 12th March.
