Out Of Harms Way

STEVE Harmison is 7/4 favourite to bowl the most wides of any England cricket during this winter's Ashes Tour, Ladbrokes said on Thursday.

The Durham paceman got off to the worst possible start on the opening morning of first test with a delivery that ended up at second slip.

He later sent down another on the way to 12 toothless overs for 52 - in stark contrast to his opening burst of the last series between the two sides.

James Anderson, who also strayed on the opening day, is 5/2 second favourite with Sajid Mahmood, Matthew Hoggard and Andrew Flintoff all available at 6/1.

Having equalled Steve Waugh's feat of 32 test centuries for his country, Ricky Ponting is 6/5 to break the record by Christmas Day.

And after racing to 346-3 on Thursday, the hosts have been cut to 3/1 from 10/1 to beat their highest Ashes total on home soil - the 659 for 8 declared set at Sydney in the 1946/47 season.
