Pakistan have bolstered the fast-bowling part of their squad ahead of what is likely to be a demanding Test tour of South Africa. Tanvir Ahmed and Rahat Ali have been called up and will join existing quick-bowlers Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan and Ehsan Adil in the now 18-strong party.
Due to the expected seamer-friendly conditions in South Africa, it is understood that the Pakistan team management had requested the selectors to add two extra seamers to the squad.
24 year-old Ali last played for Pakistan in a solitary ODI in June last year, but has been in good form since then for Multan in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, taking 18 wickets in four matches. 34 year-old Tanvir, meanwhile, played the last of his four Tests in May 2011 before being dropped due to concerns about his fitness.
Pakistan Test squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Mohammad Hafeez, Taufeeq Umar, Nasir Jamshed, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Younus Khan, Haris Sohail, Faisal Iqbal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Ehsan Adil, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Tanvir Ahmed, Rahat Ali.
