Pakistan Name Mohammad Hafeez As Twenty20 Captain

Pakistan have named their squads to tour Sri Lanka, handing the Twenty20 International captaincy to Mohammad Hafeez and confirming Misbah-ul-Haq as Test skipper.

Fast bowler Mohammad Sami and batsman Faisal Iqbal have also been handed recalls to the Test squad after lengthy absences while Misbah will also lead the One-Day International team.

Pakistan play Twenty20s, five ODIs and three Tests between 1st June and 14th July and Hafeez will act as Misbah's vice-captain in the Tests and ODIs.

Sami last played for Pakistan in 2010 and Iqbal's last appearance came in the same year while uncapped players Shakeel Ansar, Haris Sohail, Rahat Ali, Afaq Rahim and Mohammad Ayub were called up.

Sri Lanka Draw Test To Win Series In Pallekele

Sri Lanka wrapped up their first Test series win since August 2009 by batting out the final afternoon to earn a draw at Pallekele. The home side were set 270 in what turned out to be 62 overs by Pakistani captain Misbah-ul-Haq, and had progressed serenely to 132 for two in the 38th over thanks to an entertaining half-century from opener Dinesh Chandimal. However, he fell for 65 as the first of Saeed Ajmal's three victims on the stroke of tea and the home side altered their approach after the break.

Azhar Ali stroked a century and Asad Shafiq an unbeaten half-century as Pakistan closed day four of the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in Pallekele 190 runs ahead. Azhar's 136 in 283 balls gave them the platform to close on 299 for eight, Sri Lanka having been bowled out on day three for 335 in reply to 226.

Sri Lanka Fight Back To Take Lead In Pallekele

Sri Lanka established a 109-run first-innings lead over Pakistan on day three of the third and final Test in Pallekele before the tourists closed on 27 for one in their second innings. After played was washed out on day two, Sri Lanka replied to Pakistan's 226 all out with 335, recovering well having been reduced to 44 for three late on day one.

No Play Possible On Day Two In Pallekele

No play was possible on day two of the third and final Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Pallekele due to persistent and heavy rain. Thunderstorms were forecast to interrupt the match and although it stopped on a number of occasions, there was insufficient time for the ground to dry before it started again.

Bowlers Star On Absorbing Day In Pallekele

Following the high-scoring drawn second Test at Colombo when only 20 wickets fell over the course of the entire five days, the third Test at Pallekele could not have been much different. 13 wickets fell on the opening day alone as Sri Lanka's captain Mahela Jayawardene stuck to his guns and again inserted Pakistan upon winning the toss. This time, though, it wasn't so much of a gamble as his bowlers were greeted by a green-tinged pitch which had spent much of the previous 24 hours covered due to rain.

Pakistan Unable To Force Win Despite Declaration

The second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan petered out into a draw in Colombo on the final day despite Pakistan's late declaration. They closed their second innings on 100 for two, setting Sri Lanka a nominal target of 261 and they ended the game on 86 for two, taking their 1-0 series lead to the final match.
