Pakistanis 178-6 v South African Select XI

It was a mixed day for the touring Pakistan team as they began their tour of South Africa batting - and at times, battling - against a South African Select XI in East London.

A strong opening partnership was followed by a dramatic collapse and then a recovery as they closed the day on 178 for six.

In one frantic period after lunch, they lost six wickets for 45 runs after Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed had helped Pakistan reach lunch on 100 for one.

Then things started to go wrong and from 105 for one they slipped to 145 for six before recovering somewhat, aided by rain and bad light interrupting play in the final session and stalling the home side's momentum.

For the Select XI, captained by Justin Ontong, Kyle Abbott, Simon Harmer and Beau Hendricks took a brace of wickets apiece.

Hafeez made 55 and Jamshed 68.

The first Test begins on 1st February in Johannesburg.
