Tour game, Auckland
Pakistan made a poor start to their tour of New Zealand as they slumped to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of the Auckland Aces in a Twenty20 match in Auckland.
The tourists were dismissed for just 91 in 17.4 overs before Auckland reached their target with more than six overs to spare of a one-sided match.
Top scorer for Pakistan was Umar Akmal, who made 25 in 29 balls as left-arm seamer Michael Bates returned figures of four for 11 by dismissing Mohammad Hafeez (4), Shahid Afridi (1), Ahmed Shehzad (0) and Wahab Riaz (1) as only three other players reached double figures.
Shoaib Akhtar then took two wickets, as did off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, but Auckland, guided by Martin Guptill's unbeaten 28, then cruised to victory with Colin de Grandhomme also making 20 at the top of the order.
Pakistan begin a two-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan on 26th December and the tour also includes three Test matches and six One-Day Internationals.
