Paul Nixon Latest Signing For Indian Cricket League

Leicestershire wicket-keeper Paul Nixon has confirmed that he has signed up to play in the Indian Cricket League (ICL), where he will join former county team-mate Darren Maddy and other international stars including Brian Lara and Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Nixon, 37, accepts that he is unlikely to represent his country again so has decided to travel to India to take part in the series, which is competing with an official, Indian board sanctioned competition, the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“This is an exciting opportunity to end what has been a remarkably eventful year for me,” he said.

“I would never have imagined 12 months ago that I would get the opportunity to go on two England tours, and I always saw that as a bonus and a tremendous honour to play for my country.

“I am a realist though, I’m 37 years old and England have chosen to look forward in the selections they’ve made.

“This is perfect timing because India is the mecca of cricket and interest in the Twenty20 game is extremely high due to the success of the national team in becoming world champions.”
