Waitrose will become the new England team sponsor from 2014 after signing a three-year deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB. As part of the deal, the Waitrose logo will feature on all England teams playing and training wear from the Investec Test Series against Sri Lanka in May 2014, and their tenure includes prestigious home Series against India (2014) and Australia (2015), the ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (2015), the ICC World Twenty20 and Women's World Twenty20 in India (2016), and the tour of South Africa (2016).
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that a Cricket Discipline Commission has dismissed Danish Kaneria's appeal against being found guilty of two corruption charges in 2012. Kaneria was found guilty in June 2012 and banned for life by the ECB for two breaches of its Anti-Corruption code relating to a match in 2009.
Former Essex and Kent cricketer Mike Denness, who played for Scotland and captained England, has passed away aged 72 after a long battle with cancer. Denness, a right-hand batsman, made his England debut in 1969, going on to play 28 matches, 19 of them as captain. He played the majority of his career for Kent before moving to Essex in 1977, retiring in 1980.
Matt Prior was among a number of players who were kitted out in the brand new adidas England gear as part of the preparations for the 2013 international season at Lord's. After a miserable few weeks of bad weather just about relented in time for the domestic season to get underway, and after himself enjoying a break since returning from New Zealand, Prior is now keen to get going again having watched his Sussex team trounce Yorkshire in their opening game of the season.
England and Middlesex fast bowler Steven Finn is looking forward to the 2013 season, which is a massive one for England with the visit of New Zealand, Australia and the ICC Champions Trophy ahead of them. And Finn, who will be hoping to be involved in the series against New Zealand, the Champions Trophy and the Investec Ashes, is keen to get going.
When Captain Cook and his men arrived in New Zealand they were under instructions to be friendly but firm towards the locals. He was told that when confronted by natives he must encourage patience and discipline among his men. It is important to win hearts and minds, they said. However, should the local inhabitants seek to deny your claims to victory in a hostile manner you must combat their belligerence with force.
