Pietersen Out Of Hampshire V Lancashire Clash

England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been omitted from Hampshire's line-up for their LV County Championship match against Lancashire.

Pietersen suffered a calf strain during the Friends Provident victory over Hampshire, before scoring a match-winning 66 runs at the Rose Bowl.

He was taken for an MRI scan, the results of which persuaded the ECB medical team that he shouldn't be risked in the four day game. His injury will be further assessed later on this week and it is not yet known if his participation in the summer's opening Test match against West Indies is at risk.

The full Hampshire squad for the match is as follows:

Jimmy Adams, Chris Benham, James Bruce, Michael Brown, Stuart Clark, John Crawley, Michael Carberry, Sean Ervine, Michael Lumb, Dimi Mascarenhas, Nic Pothas, Chris Tremlett, Shane Warne

Lancashire line up as follows:

Mark Chilton, James Anderson, Glenn Chapple, Dominic Cork, Andrew Flintoff, Brad Hodge, Paul Horton, Gary Keedy, Stuart Law, Mal Loye, Sajid Mahmood, Tom Smith, Luke Sutton.
