Richard Beghin of Flicx UK wore a big smile all day and told the Everest Test 20/20 cricket teams that "Flicx are very proud to be associated with your adventure to play the first ever competitive Twenty20 cricket match at the base camp of Everest.  It is a further great honour to know that this first game will be played on a Flicx Pitch.

"When I first developed the Flicx pitch back in 1998 it was for the development of young South African cricketers who had been brought up in the under-privileged townships of South Africa. These youngsters desperately wanted to play cricket and it provided them with a fantastic opportunity to develop their game of cricket. Now to realize that it will be taken to new heights and played at this high altitude in such a special match, is beyond my wildest dreams.

"Your event of playing cricket at Everest Base camp forms part of a quest and a campaign of mine..."

“Flicx – Taking cricket to where it has never been played before.

"This was an initial programme launched together with the International Cricket Council development programme.  We had a tremendous response from this campaign, with cricket stories coming from all over the world.. Cricket played under the Eiffel Tower, played in the deserts of Namibia and Morocco, played on Ice on a harbor in Sweden and in the barren frozen fields in Iceland.. so when this opportunity presented itself we were very keen to get involved.. as we can now add both Trafalgar Square and soon to be Everest.. Who knows what's in store for next year..an Aircraft Carrier out in the middle of the Atlantic?????”
