Cape Cobras 193-4 (Puttick 104no, Mascarenhas 2-20) beat
Otago Volts 139 (N McCullum 38, Kleinveldt 3-38) by 54 runs
Airtel Champions League Twenty20 Group C
Cape Cobras captain Andrew Puttick led by example, scoring an unbeaten century to set up a 54-run win over the Otago Volts that saw the Cobras qualify for the second stage of the Champions League.
Puttick hit 104 not out in 62 deliveries with 12 fours and three sixes as his side piled on 193 for four, eventually closing out the game by bowling out New Zealand's champion side for 139.
Puttick was given good support from JP Duminy (32) and Justin Ontong (39 not out) and despite Dimitri Mascarenhas picking up three for 20, the Cobras smashed their way to the highest score of the tournament so far.
It was more than enough as although a number of Otago players made starts, not one of them could go on and make the kind of score to threaten the Cobras, for whom Rory Kleinveldt (3-38) and Duminy (2-10) were the most impressive bowlers.
Nathan McCullum top scored with 38 in 21 balls and his brother Brendon made 21 but the Volts now meet the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their final group game, the loser of which will exit the tournament.
