Mushfiqur Rahim has been appointed as captain of Bangladesh until the end of the year despite resigning from his position following May’s ODI series loss in Zimbabwe. He later admitted that his resignation had been a mistake and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that it would investigate the matter.
They have done so and, following their executive committee meeting today, have appointed him for the final half of the year. Vice-captain Mahmudullah also had his period at the helm extended until the end of 2013, with coach Shane Jurgensen having his contract extended until the end of March 2015.
Jurgensen took over as Bangladesh coach last October following the resignation of Richard Pybus.
Another decision taken at today’s meeting was that the Dhaka Premier League, the country’s premier club cricket tournament which has been postponed three times this year, will begin on 29th August.
Bangladesh are next scheduled to play international cricket when they host New Zealand in October this year.
