Rene Farrell Drafted Into Southern Stars Squad
New South Wales fast-medium bowler Rene Farrell has been drafted into the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars squad after Lisa Sthalekar and Clea Smith were injured during yesterday’s third one-day international against New Zealand in Darwin.
Sthalekar, the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars vice captain, fractured the little finger on her left hand while fielding, and Smith injured her back while bowling, as Australia took a 2-1 lead in the Rose Bowl series.
Smith will miss the remainder of the series but Sthalekar will be assessed on Saturday morning to determine her fitness.
Farrell will arrive in Darwin late tonight and join the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars in time for training tomorrow morning.
The 20-year-old is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and right-hand bat and is a member of the Commonwealth Bank Shooting Stars squad. She toured New Zealand with the Commonwealth Bank Shooting Stars early this year and performed well with a mixture of controlled bowling and hard-hitting batting.
The final two matches of the Rose Bowl Series will be held this Saturday and Sunday, 28 and 29 July. Play starts at 10.00am at Gardens Oval on both days and entry is free. Cricket Australia’s website, www.cricket.com.au, is providing live scores of all matches throughout the series.
