Ricky Ponting Undergoes Surgery On Injured Wrist
Australian captain Ricky Ponting has undergone surgery on the injured wrist that kept him out of the final two One Day Internationals in the Caribbean.
Ponting was reviewed by Cricket Australia (CA) medical staff in consultation with Dr Greg Hoy, a wrist specialist.
“Ricky has sustained a tendon injury that requires repair of tissues that hold the tendon in place. This surgery was performed today,” CA Medical Officer Trefor James, said.
“Ponting’s recovery will be monitored in the coming weeks and a decision regarding his fitness for the upcoming series against Bangladesh and then the Champions Trophy will be made in due course.”
Australia play three One Day Internationals against Bangladesh in August before the Champions Trophy which begins in Pakistan on September 11th.
