Guyana Amazon Warriors 169-5 (Ronchi 70) beat
Jamaica Tallawahs 168-8 (Sangakkara 57) by five wickets
Eliminator, Caribbean Premier League, Trinidad
Luke Ronchi scored a fluent 70 run knock as Guyana Amazon Warriors chased down 169 runs against Jamaica Tallawahs in 18th over with five wickets in hand to progress to Qualifier 2 in the Caribbean Premier League where they will face Trinbago Knight Riders.
Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and opted to bowl first. Lendl Simmons (34) and Kennar Lewis (15) got Jamaica off to a promising start of 37 runs in the first four overs but the latter fell in the fifth over to Rayad Emrit (1-25).
Steven Jacobs (2-33) further dented Jamaica momentum with the wickets of Simmons and Mahmudullah (3) in the seventh over and at halfway mark they reached 84 for three.
Rashid Khan (3-32) claimed a hat-trick in the 15th over when he accounted for Andre McCarthy (14), Jonathan Foo (0) and Rovman Powell (0) in three consecutive deliveries. As the innings were moving downslide, skipper Kumar Sangakkara (57 not out) held one end and even completed fourth fifty to take the total to 168 for eight in the 20 overs.
Chadwick Walton (39) started the innings positively with a six and a four but they lost Sohail Tanvir (7) in the third over. Walton and Ronchi (70) played positively as they shared a 67 run partnership off just 37 deliveries.
Even though a triple strike from Mahmudullah brought Jamaica back into the game, Ronchi continued to play aggressively and reached his fifty off 20 deliveries to put them to course of victory which they eventually completed in 17.5 overs.
