Sri Lanka 245-2 (Sangakkara 112no, Dilshan 92) v Pakistan
Third Test, Sharjah, day one
Scorecard

Kumar Sangakkara scored his 27th century and 9,000th run in Test cricket as Sri Lanka closed the opening day of the third and final game against Pakistan in Sharjah on 245 for two.

After Pakistan struck in the first over of the day, Sri Lanka completely dominated as Sangakkara put on a partnership worth 173 with Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Dilshan made 92 in 168 balls before he edged Saeed Ajmal to Younus Khan at slip to break a magnificent partnership. It was Younus who took the catch to remove Tharanga Paranavitana (4) from the fifth ball of the day when the opener edged Umar Gul but Pakistan had little else to cheer.

Sangakkara played extremely fluently, hitting two sixes, the second of which brought up his century and he faced 263 balls in all, also hitting 11 fours as he made 112 not out.

After Dilshan's dismissal, Sangakkara joined forces with Mahela Jayawardene, who survived several testing moments to make his way to 32 from 82 deliveries.

Pakistan lead the series 1-0 following a draw in Abu Dhabi and a nine-wicket win in Dubai.
