Sri Lankans 301-7 (Sangakkara 110, Silva 75) beat
Queensland 189 (Philipson 69, Fernando 4-41) by 112 runs
Tour game, Brisbane

Kumar Sangakkara led by example, hitting an aggressive century, as the touring Sri Lankans beat Queensland by 112 runs in the opening game of their tour of Australia.

Sangakkara's 110 in 95 balls enabled his side to post 301 for seven before Queensland were dismissed for 189 in reply.

He was backed up by Chamara Silva, who made 75 in 68 balls, and Chamara Kapugedera's 35 from number three in the order. Jeevan Mendis blasted an unbeaten 26 in 19 balls to ensure Queensland would have to chase more than 300 to win the game.

In the event, they never threatened the target, losing wickets quickly to find themselves floundering at 51 for four and then 134 for seven.

Dilhara Fernando returned four for 41 and Dammika Prasad three for 43 and only Craig Philipson (69), Chris Simpson and Chris Lynn (both 31) made useful contributions.

Sri Lanka take on Australia in a Twenty20 International and three One-Day Internationals, and they continue their build-up with 50 and 20-over matches against New South Wales on 24th and 27th October respectively.

The Twenty20 International is on 31st October while the ODIs get underway on 3rd November.
