Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has been cleared of a serious injury, though his participation in the fourth Ashes Test against England in Melbourne is still under doubt.

The 27-year-old suffered soreness in the heel while bowling in the third Test in Perth and underwent scans at the end of the game.

However, scan results revealed that the injury was not as worse as it was originally thought and Starc will be assessed before the fourth game that kicks-off on 26th December.

“Starc had a scan in Sydney which confirmed bruising on his heel.

"He will still travel to Melbourne with the squad as planned and will be reassessed ahead of the test,” the team said in a media release.

Australia already have seamer Jackson Bird in the squad as a cover and he will be a direct replacement for Starc in case the latter fails to recover in time.

Steven Smith's side have already sealed the Ashes series 3-0 following wins in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
