Scotland’s squad for their third match in the 2011-13 Intercontinental Cup competition against the UAE has seen young batsmen Ewan Chalmers and Freddie Coleman called up in place of the experienced duo of Kyle Coetzer – who is set to play in the Bangladesh Premier League for the Chittagong Kings – and Josh Davey – who is currently in South Africa with his county Middlesex. Pace bowler Alasdair Evans has also been added to the squad as cover.

Following this fixture in the UAE, the bulk of the squad will stay in the region and travel to Sri Lanka for a training camp where they will play a series of limited-overs matches against local opposition. Davey, along with Fraser Watts, Jan Stander and Calvin Burnett, will link up with the squad at this stage with Coleman, Evans, wicket-keeper Simon Smith and Chalmers returning home. Matthew Parker, who has been recovering from hip surgery, is expected to join the playing squad at this stage after travelling to the UAE on the first leg of the tour as part of his rehabilitation.

Finally, the players will return to the UAE for two matches in the re-branded ICC World Cricket League Championship – essentially a re-named Division One, albeit one which now provides direct entry into the 2015 World Cup for the top two sides – before competing in the ICC World Twenty20 qualifier to be held at the end of March.

Commenting on the forthcoming tour, head coach Peter Steindl stated “This will be a challenging tour for the squad, which will incorporate all three forms of the game. Our preparations have gone well to date and we are looking to transfer this work quickly when we arrive in Sharjah on Saturday”.
