Scotland Women Swap Bats For Batons

Seven Scotland Women cricketers will swap cricket bats for royal batons as they play their part in the Queen's Baton Relay ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Coach Kari Carswell is joined in the photos above by Kirstie Gordon, Liz Priddle, Zoe Conway, Abbi Aitken, Abtaha Maqsood and Caitlin Heathcote, who will run with the baton through June and July.

All seven women have been nominated to run with the baton and Carswell sees this as a great honour for her and her team.

"I’m delighted that so many of our female players have been selected to take part in this prestigious event," she said.

"They are a fantastic bunch of athletes with a tremendous work ethic and commitment to sport and their communities, and it’s a great honour for so many to be participating. I know it means a lot to them.

"The Scotland Women team is training hard as we approach the Global Qualifiers for the Womens’ Cricket World Cup, so it’s an exciting year for us."
