Only six overs of the second one-day international between Australia and New Zealand in Sydney were bowled before the second game in the Chappell-Hadlee trophy was abandoned.

New Zealand won the toss, batted, losing three wickets in three overs and were 30 for three when the players left the field.

New Zealand were in disarray at 12 for three, losing openers Lou Vincent, Brendon McCullum and middle order batsman Jamie How as Brett Lee picked up two wickets and Nathan Bracken one.

Australia lead the series 1-0 with the final match in Hobart on the 20th December.
