Virender Sehwag hit five sixes in a 26-ball innings of 51 that saw the Delhi Daredevils make 118 for four in 11 overs of a rain-reduced 40th game of the Indian Premier League against the Kings XI Punjab in Delhi. However, his heroics were not enough as an unbeaten partnership of 63 between Luke Pomersbach and Mahela Jayawardene ensured the the Punjab side won by six runs when play was suspended after eight overs of their reply.

After he had won the toss, Sehwag added 75 runs with Gautam Gambhir (40) for the first wicket before the Kings XI hit back, Ramesh Powar having Gambhir bowled and Shikhar Dhawan caught by Piyush Chawla.

In the last over, James Hopes had both Tillakaratne Dilshan (eight) and Farveez Maharoof (nought) caught off of consecutive deliveries as he returned figures of two for two from one over.

It looked as if Delhi would be celebrating when they reduced the Kings XI to 31 for three with Shaun Marsh (two), James Hopes (four), and Yuvraj Singh (23) back in the dugout.

Yuvraj, though had only needed eight balls to hit his runs and Pomersbach and Jayawardene continued where he had left off, the Australian unbeaten on 25 from 12 balls and the Sri Lankan on 36 from 17 when the rains came.

They had made it to 94 for three - their target had been 88.
