Asad Shafiq stroked a composed unbeaten half-century to guide Pakistan to a seven-wicket Duckworth/Lewis method win over Zimbabwe in their ICC Cricket World Cup Group A game in Pallekele.

A rain-interrupted match saw Zimbabwe close on 151 for seven in 39.4 overs and Pakistan then reach an adjusted target to finish on 164 for three in 34.1 overs.

Craig Ervine top scored with 52 for Zimbabwe as Umar Gul took three for 36, Zimbabwe struggling to recover after being reduced to 13 for three.

Shafiq then made 78 in 97 balls and Mohammad Hafeez 49 in 65 balls to ensure Pakistan did not slip up despite spinners Ray Price (2-21) and Prosper Utseya (1-24) grabbing three wickets.
