Australian Shane Watson has been forced to cancel his plans to join up with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League after he suffered a groin injury.

The all-rounder, who picked up the injury while batting in Australia's seven-wicket loss to Pakistan in the Twenty20 International in Dubai, will now return home rather than head to South Africa, joining James Hopes and Nathan Bracken on the Australian injury list ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 and Ashes tour in England.

"Shane has suffered a mild groin strain tonight while batting," doctor Trefor James said. "He will return home tomorrow for scans and rehabilitation and his condition will be reviewed over the coming weeks to determine his availability for the ICC World Twenty20 in the United Kingdom."

Watson was returning to the side in the Middle East after a spell on the sidelines due to a back injury.
