Kochi Tuskers Kerala 74 (Sharma 5-12) by 55 runs
Indian Premier League 2011, Kochi
Scorecard

Ishant Sharma became the seventh man to take a five-wicket haul in the Indian Premier League as he demolished the Kochi Tuskers Kerala batting line-up to bowl the Deccan Chargers to a 55-run victory.

At one point, Kochi were two for four without a run having been scored off the bat and following Sharma's outstanding burst with the new ball they were 11 for six.

Chasing 130 to win after the Chargers reached 129 for seven, there was no way back and they were eventually bowled out for 74 with Dale Steyn taking three for 16.

Steyn struck first to remove Brendon McCullum (0) before Sharma dismissed Parthiv Patel (0), Raiphi Gomez (0), Brad Hodge (0) and Kedar Jadhav (0) as well as Mahela Jayawardene, who made four.

Gomez and Hodge were both bowled while Jayawardene and Patel both offered wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara catches which were gladly taken while Jadhav was trapped in front.

Kochi attempted to counter through Ravi Jadeja (23), Tissara Perera (22) and Ranganath Vinay Kumar (18) but they had been left with far too much to do.

Steyn ended the match by bowling Kumar and RP Singh with consecutive deliveries - the first of which broke the leg stumps.

Sangakkara had earlier stroked an excellent half-century, making 65 in 47 balls as the Chargers bounced back from themselves being reduced to 20 for three when Sunny Sohal (1), Shikhar Dhawan (4) and Bharat Chipli (4) all fell early.

Having been bowled on five by a Shanthakumaran Sreesanth no ball, he went on to hit ten fours and put on 90 with Cameron White (31) for the fourth wicket.

They were the only two players to reach double figures but despit a late collapse which saw four wickets fall for 17 wickets as Vinay Kumar took three for 25 they had enough runs on the board on a pitch that offered plenty to the bowlers.

The win lifted the Chargers up to sixth place in the table thanks to their third win while the Tuskers dropped to eighth as a result.

IPL 2011
The Chennai Super Kings blew away the Royal Challengers Bangalore, winning by 58 runs, in the 2011 IPL final at Chennai to clinch the title in emphatic style. This was their second IPL crown in four years of competition and they have made the knock-out stage every single year. For Bangalore this was second time unlucky in the finals after they finished runners-up in 2009.
Chris Gayle earned his sixth man-of-the-match award in the Indian Premier League 2011 after his innings of 89 in 47 balls set up a 43-run win for the Royal Challengers Bangalore over the Mumbai Indians. The result means that Gayle's side will now face reigning champions the Chennai Super Kings in Saturday's final and there will be no dream rematch of the 2010 final and no opportunity for Sachin Tendulkar to add the 2011 IPL crown to his World Cup winner's medal.
The Mumbai Indians beat the Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets in the Indian Premier League eliminator to win through and get one step closer to the final. It was their second win against the Knight Riders in as many matches and although not quite as dramatic as the final group game, this match also went down to the final over, the home team getting there with four balls to spare.
The Chennai Super Kings left it late but managed to score 59 runs in the final four overs to beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets and make it to the final of the Indian Premier League 2011. Albie Morkel won the match with a six over midwicket off Daniel Vettori with two balls remaining as the Super Kings came from nowhere to take the game - they had needed 66 runs to win from 30 balls.
You have to begin with negatives in this one, writes Chetan Narula. The latest season of the Indian Premier League has simply failed to live up to expectations that have been laid down since three years past. If it were to be said that ratings and fan attendances are at an all-time low, nothing would be wrong for barring the stint in South Africa, 2008 and 2010 were fairly successful times for the IPL.
The Mumbai Indians stole a win on the last ball of the last league match of the 2011 Indian Premier League, winning by five wickets at Kolkata and with this victory, Mumbai pipped Kolkata to finish third in the league and the hosts would be very flushed about this loss, for it cost them a potential second chance to qualify for the finals.
