Silva, Jayawardene Steer Sri Lanka Into Lead
A century from Mahela Jayawardene and Kaushal Silva's near-miss helped Sri Lanka close day two of the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai 153 runs ahead.
Silva fell for 95 after Sri Lanka had already moved past Pakistan's score of 165 and with Jayawardene closing unbeaten on 106, they had advanced to 318 for four.
Silva, who made 87 before being dismissed in the final over of day three of the opening Test in Abu Dhabi, seemed determined not to waste his latest opportunity, facing 221 balls before he was trapped in front by Mohammad Hafeez.
Jayawardene, though, made no mistake, notching up his 32nd Test century to put Sri Lanka in a commanding position, alongside captain Angelo Mathews, unbeaten on 42.
Nuwan Pradeep and Rangana Herath both took three wickets on the opening day to dismiss Pakistan for a modest score.
The opening Test in Abu Dhabi was drawn.
