Kaushal Silva scored his maiden Test century as Sri Lanka dominated day two of the opening Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur to close 143 runs ahead.
Silva, who registered scores of 81 and 95 during the recent Test series against Pakistan, made it to three figures on this occasion before Sri Lanka closed on 375 for five replying to Bangladesh's 232.
There were also half-centuries for Kumar Sangakkara (75) and Dimuth Karunaratne (59) as Sri Lanka remained in control.
However, Bangladesh fought back late on by taking two wickets in seven balls prior to stumps with Shakib Al Hasan bowling Dinesh Chandimal for 40 and Sohag Gazi removing nightwatchman Suranga Lakmal for a duck.
But with a healthy lead, Mahela Jayawardene unbeaten on 42, and batting to come through Angelo Mathews, Kithruwan Vithanage and Dilruwan Perera, Sri Lanka will be disappointed if they are not able to bat Bangladesh out of the game from this position.
