Former England, Yorkshire and Middlesex fast bowler Chris Silverwood is to join Essex as their bowling coach ahead of the 2010 domestic season.
Silverwood will join Essex as a replacement for Graeme Welch and will start his new role on 1st March.
"Chris will be joining us as Bowling Coach from 1st March when the players report back for full pre-season training," head coach Paul Grayson confirmed.
"He will also travel with us to Barbados where he will be able to work really close with the bowlers as we prepare for the start of the season.
"We were obviously keen to replace Graeme (Welch) as quickly as possible. Chris is a highly respected person having played plenty of first-class cricket and of course he has represented England. He is desperately keen to make an impact and is the perfect Bowling Coach for the club as he ticks all of the boxes."
Silverwood made his England debut in 1996, going on to play six Tests and seven One-Day Internationals and he has recently been working with Zimbabwe's Cricket Academy.
