Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday confirmed the launch of their own version of T20 League that kick-start later this year.
Named the 'Lankan Premier League', the tournament is set to feature six teams and are set to play other teams two times each in the opening round.
CEO of SLC Ashley De Silva confirmed in a statement released by the board that the tournament will be played between 18th August and 10th September.
The board further assured that Sri Lanka's players are expected to be free of international commitment during that phase but the tournament is set to clash with the Caribbean Premier League and Natwest T20 Blast.
Earlier, SLC also launched the Sri Lanka Premier League in 2011 but managed to get underway just one season in 2012 and was eventually called off due to financial constraint.
