Bangladesh have included off-spinner Sohag Gazi in their 14-man squad for the Twenty20 International series against South Africa which kicks off on Sunday.
Gazi, who had been suspended for illegal bowling action last year, will replace injured all-rounder Mohammad Mahmudullah in the side.
Mahmudullah is yet to recover fully from the finger injury that ruled him out of the recent home series against India.
It was in October last year that Gazi was suspended for an illegal bowling action, although the 24-year-old was cleared to bowl in February this year following remedial work and retests.
However, a continuous decline in form coupled with the healthy competition for spots in the team, meant that Gazi was left out of the side until his latest inclusion.
Chief Selector Faruque Ahmed welcomed Gazi’s addition to the squad which the former felt was an ideal replacement for Mahmudullah.
"We are looking for an option after Mahmudullah's injury and he (Gazi) fulfils our requirement," chief selector Faruque Ahmed told AFP.
Apart from Mahmudullah, another big exclusion from the squad is pacer Taskin Ahmed, who is out with a rib injury, sustained during the practice sessions.
Leg-spinner Jubair Hossain, who has impressed during his brief Test career so far, is set to make his T20I debut as Taskin’s replacement.
The two matches of the T20I series between South Africa and Bangladesh will be held on Sunday and Tuesday respectively.
