Somerset Sign West Indian Spinner Omari Banks

Somerset have strengthened their spin bowling ranks by signing West Indian off-spinner Omari Banks on a two-year deal.

Banks, who holds an British passport courtesy of his place of birth being British protectorate Anguilla, will not count as an overseas player and has been signed after he impressed when playing a second team game this year.

With Cameron White unable to return, Banks will be expected to fill in as both a spinner and a batsman. He has played in 10 test matches between 2003 and 2005.

Somerset director of cricket told www.somersetcountycc.co.uk that, "Omari is a great signing and will give us strength in depth in key positions in our squad, which is what we are going to need when we compete in the top divisions next season.

"Omari will also be a huge asset to us and will be very dangerous in one-day cricket and the Twenty20 Cup."
