Australian fast bowler Damien Wright has signed for Somerset to play for the first month of the domestic season as cover for left-arm spinner Murali Kartik.
Kartik will miss the start of the season due to his involvement with the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Kolkata Knight Riders, and Wright, who has experience of English conditions having previously played for Glamorgan and Northamptonshire, will provide bowling cover.
The quick bowler has recently helped Victoria claim the Sheffield Shield in Australia and he is the fourth overseas player to have been signed by Somerset for the 2010 season.
Kartik will be joined for the Friends Provident t20 by Australian Cameron White and West Indian Kieron Pollard, both of whom are also involved in the IPL.
"Damien Wright has had a fantastic season with Victoria and in the last half dozen games he has taken 35 wickets at an average of 14.34," Somerset Director of Cricket Brian Rose told the club's website.
"He nearly became my first signing as director of cricket at Somerset and I have always rated him as a fine player."
