South Africa Women cruised to a nine-wicket win over Bangladesh Women in the first Twenty20 International in Potchefstroom.

After restricting Bangladesh to just 72 for four, Trisha Chetty (32 not out) and Mignon du Preez (29 not out) guided South Africa home with more than five overs to spare.

Moseline Daniels and Dane van Niekerk took one for four and one for 14 respectively to lead South Africa's bowling effort as Bangladesh failed to score with any fluency.

Lata Mondal top scored with 31 not out.

"I'm extremely proud of our performance today," captain du Preez said. "We haven’t played together for nearly five months so we did well to win this game by such a large margin.

"I hope this is the upward curve for the series and we continue to improve in the next two games.

"Everybody who bowled, did really well and stuck to their game plans, I can’t fault them in any area," she added.

"We can probably improve on our fielding and support the bowlers a lot more but other than that it was almost a perfect bowling performance."

The next match in the three-game series is on Saturday (14th September).
