South Africa have been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during the first Test against India in Chennai, ruled to have been two overs short of their target.

Match referee Roshan Mahanama imposed a fine of 20 per cent of captain Graeme Smith's match fee and 10 per cent for the rest of the side as per normal ICC regulations.

South Africa drew the match after Neil McKenzie and Hashim Amla scored 150 or more - both men were outclassed by Cricket World® Player Of The Week Virender Sehwag who registered a Test best 319 in the first innings.

The second Test begins on Thursday in Ahmedabad.
