New Zealand have called up Hamish Rutherford and Tim Southee to replace the injured pair of Martin Guptill and Mitchell McClenaghan for the second ODI against England.
Guptill, who could yet return for the third game in Auckland, sustained a hamstring injury during yesterday’s win in Hamilton, while McClenaghan picked up a side strain and has been ruled out for the remainder of the series.
"Unfortunately Mitchell will miss the rest of the one day series while Martin will be out for Wednesday night and we will assess him again [on Monday]," New Zealand physiotherapist Paul Close said.
Guptill will be replaced by Rutherford, who impressed during the Twenty20 series against England, while Southee returns from injury to take the place of McClenaghan. Southee has not played for the Black Caps since their tour of Sri Lanka but made a successful return for his state Northern Districts in their latest Plunket Shield win over Wellington, taking nine wickets and hitting 83.
ODI squad for second match: Brendon McCullum (captain), Trent Boult, Grant Elliott, Andrew Ellis, James Franklin, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Colin Munro, Hamish Rutherford, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson.
