Sri Lanka v New Zealand

Tri-Series One-Day International, Colombo

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat first in the opening tri-series One-Day International at The R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Sides batting second traditionally struggle at the RPS and New Zealand, having won both Twenty20 Internationals also batting first, will have plenty of work to do.

There is still no Muttiah Muralitharan for the hosts, who welcome back Thilina Kandamby, Thilan Samaraweera and Thilan Thushara.

New Zealand hand Grant Elliott and Daryl Tuffey their first starts of the tour and off-spinner Nathan McCullum an ODI debut.

Sri Lanka: Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera, Thilina Kandamby, Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilan Thushara, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Jacob Oram, Nathan McCullum, Daniel Vettori (captain), Shane Bond, Daryl Tuffey, Ian Butler
