South Africa Women 227-8 (Fritz 64) beat
Sri Lanka Women 117 (van Niekerk 4-14) by 110 runs
Women' World Cup Super Six, Cuttack
Sri Lanka Women lost seven wickets for seven runs, collapsing from 110 for three to be all out for 117 to hand South Africa a 110-run win in their Women's World Cup Super Six game in Cuttack.
They were making steady progress having been set 228 to win before losing their way completely, Dane van Niekerk taking four for 18 to ensure the two sides will meet again in Friday's fifth place play-off.
Batting first, South Africa made a poor start losing openers Yolande Potgieter for four and Trisha Chetty for one before Mignon du Preez (37), Cri-Zelda Brits (52), Shandre Fritz (64) and van Niekerk (40) steered them towards their second highest ODI score against Sri Lanka.
Fritz hit 10 fours in her 71-ball innings while van Niekerk helped her side finish with a flourish, facing just 38 deliveries. Chamani Seneviratne took three for 44 and there was a wicket apiece for Eshani Kaushalya, Sripali Weerakkody, Sharina Ravikumar and Oshadi Ranasinghe.
Sri Lanka also started poorly when Shabnim Ismail bowled Lasanthi Madushani for one but with Chamari Atapattu playing well at one end, they began to recover as she dominated a partnership with Deepika Rasangika (9), lost Dilani Manodara for one and then found support from Sandamali Dolowatte, who made 21.
Her dismissed, stumped off the bowling of van Niekerk, precipitated the end for Sri Lanka. Ismail broke through again to remove Kaushalya, Potgeiter had Seneviratne caught and bowled without scoring, Weerakkody and Udeshika Prabodhani fell to van Niekerk for ducks and Ranasinghe was run out for one.
In a flurry, Sri Lanka were all out in just 36.4 overs; their final seven wickets had lasted just 5.1 overs and along with van Niekerk's lethal spell, Ismail finished with two for 22, Marcia Letsoalo one for 12 and Potgieter one for 14.
