Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that its own domestic Twenty20 tournament to be run along similar lines to the Indian Premier League will begin on 19th July.
The league will comprise seven teams with international and domestic players assigned by the Sri Lankan national selection committee. The teams will play each other once each before the top four qualify for semi-finals.
The tournament is set to last 18 days and each squad can have up to five international players on their roster but only four will be able to play at any one time.
Each game will be held at the R Premadesa Stadium in Colombo and be a day/night affair.
The seven teams are the Basnahira Bears, the Kandurata Kites, Nagenahira Nagas, Ruhuna Rhinos, Uthura Oryxes, Uva Unicorns and Wayamba Wolves.
Irish all-rounder Kevin O'Brien has confirmed he has been signed up by one of the seven teams.
